i mean at the end of the day i can still perfectly hear her ripping cry of “e tardi“ from the live radio broadcast of Traviata. that’s like not even supposed to be anything in the opera. like it’s in a recitative, not even close to an aria, and still she attacked it because she recognized the importance of those words.
i’m gonna miss this bitch when she takes her stupid fucking sabbatical. YOU’RE NOT A PROFESSOR YOU’RE A SINGER DON’T TAKE A FUCKING BREAK. ugh don’t leave me Natalie.

NATALIE DESSAY- HAMLET MAD SCENE

The most important things are the hardest things to say. They are the things you get ashamed of because words diminish your feelings. Words shrink things that seem timeless when they are in your head to no more than living size when they are brought out.

A young singer’s blog entry defending her love of Natalie Dessay, in light of recent Traviata criticism.

Ok. Let’s be honest. I am not the world’s biggest Natalie Dessay fan but honestly…she is so amazing in this production! I love the way she does this mad scene. It’s just so epic! Enjoy! :)
I just saw the HD Encore of her Violetta from the Met. It was a vocal mess of sorts, but I was still floored. I came home and had to watch her sing Lucia’s Mad Scene again. This is the only opera I’ve heard her sing live in the house as she’s quite cancel happy these days … but what a special singer when she’s on.
